Managing defensive domain registrations with renewals across hundreds of=
TLD extensions is time-consuming.
Domain blocks protect your brand for several years across multiple extensio=
ns. Plus, you can continue to register the domains you need.
The principle of domain blocking is simple. A string, label or keyword containing a brand name =
or trademarked term in any form is blocked from future registration as a va=
lid domain name and therefore
cannot be used for fraudulent or abusive purposes.
Depending on the blocking service chosen, the number of TLDs that will be b=
locked for registration will be determined. Some of the blocking service pr=
oviders today also offer advanced services that allow blocking of
variants of their strings, including common typos and mixed script or homog=
lyph registrations.
Generally, an existing registration with the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH)=
is required to use the blocking services. InterNetX offers a matching Trademark Clearinghouse Agent Service for trademark owners i=
f needed.
As with domains, there are the tasks CREATE, TRANSFER, UPDATE and DELETE fo=
r the Domain Blocking Services.
The blocking services offered by a number of registries provide a compre=
hensive alternative to perpetual Sunrise registrations.
Trademark owners can use their TMCH record to block =
domain registrations by third parties under their trademarked terms.=

The registration of blocked domain names is still possible for the=
owner of the domain block, depending on the blocking service provider.

Only a trademark owner with a=
n identical trademark in the Trademark Clearinghouse can also override a bl=
ock by this so-called override.
The following domain blocking services allow an override for trademar=
